Janine’s Future is Changed

She sought traditional medical treatments with little progress.  Thankfully, a friend knew of her love for music and her need for healing.  Janine leapt at the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.  She chose the bass guitar.  Six months into the program, Janine has not only progressed from playing chords to reading sheet music to playing songs, but most importantly, she has made wonderful progress on her path to healing from PTSD. I hope you are doing well! It’s an incredibly busy time of year for most of us, so I appreciate you taking the time to read our newsletter. Last month I shared about what foster children experience when they go back to school. This month, I’d like to highlight an additional challenge that these vulnerable children endure.  Once children are removed from their homes to protect them, they are housed in shelters, group homes, and foster homes. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, they are forced to move an average twice a year. They pack their meager possessions in a garbage bag, backpack, or shabby suitcase. Some children quit bothering to unpack. They also quit bothering to make friends, trust adults, or connect with teachers. It’s Giving Tuesday and U.S. Orphans Need Your Help!

It’s Giving Tuesday! Did you know that right in our own backyards there are orphans that need your help? After suffering abuse and neglect, they now live in foster homes, group homes, and shelters. They move an average of three to four times a year, so the stability of school, teachers and friends are lost. Without stability, and with the added impact of COVID isolation, these children are at high risk for mental health disorders, depression, and even suicide. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!  We have so much to be thankful for! At All Kids Need Music, a non-profit organization that helps children, we are so grateful that our therapeutic music lessons are assisting abused, traumatized, and at risk children heal and recover lost ground in their young lives.  It is absolutely amazing to witness the transformations that occur when these children are given the tools they need to process their grief.  It truly does help level the playing field in a situation where the deck is totally stacked against them for their future.
